Title: Ready-Why Women Are Embracing the New Later Motherhood
Author: Elizabeth Gregory
“My aim here is not to tell anyone when to have children—each of us determines the right choice for her family.”
Ready peaked my interest when I read this in the introduction. This statement embodies what I believe about different seasons in a woman’s life and not allowing anyone to determine your season to give birth or to adopt.
For expectant moms and women who are considering motherhood after 35 and have been scared by all the negative statistics pushed by the media, the author doesn’t pretend the statistics don’t exist, she cites a few. However, she provides positive real-life examples of women who became moms after age 35— or as the title of the book suggest when they were "ready."
Perhaps, learning from the life-lessons she has encountered as Director of Women’s Studies and as an Associate Professor of English at the University of Houston, the author doesn’t tiptoe around hot-button issues such trans-racial adoption, gay moms, fertility clinics profits and stay-at-home and working outside the home moms. She offers insightful and well-researched material.
Ready-Why Women are Embracing the New Later Motherhood is one of the books that should be placed in the hands of every media personnel who boost ratings by citing negative over 35-motherhood information and in the hands of every relative, friend, or medical professional who believe the negative information. Finally, if you are an expectant mom or a woman who is considering motherhood after 35, pick up a copy of the book!
